A Ukrainian Artist in the South of France

Art That Was Never Meant to Stay Still

The Quiet Bulb was created by Kateryna Makohon, an artist based in the South of France. Each amaryllis bulb is individually waxed and hand-painted, transforming a living plant into a one-of-a-kind piece of botanical art.

Somewhere between the Pyrenees and imagination, The Quiet Bulb was born.

Where The Quiet Bulb Story Begins

My Approach

A Living Canvas

I wanted to create something that could be both art and alive. Each amaryllis bulb becomes my canvas — I work with paint, texture and decorative details while preserving what makes it most extraordinary: its ability to grow and bloom

The bulb already carries everything it needs for its first bloom. Once sealed in wax, it requires no soil or watering — it simply changes, grows and eventually flowers.

No two bulbs are exactly alike, and neither are the pieces I create from them.

Our Atelier

From Root to Radiance

Choosing the Bulb

I carefully select large, healthy amaryllis bulbs for their strength and potential to bloom. Each one is naturally different in shape — and that individuality becomes part of the final design.

Before painting begins, I look at the form of each bulb and imagine what it could become.

Preparing the Living Canvas

Each bulb is carefully prepared and sealed in wax by hand. The wax allows the amaryllis to rely on the energy and moisture naturally stored inside the bulb during its first bloom — so it needs no soil or watering.

Pigment & Patina

This is where each bulb becomes one of a kind. I paint and decorate every piece by hand, working with colour, texture and the natural shape of the bulb.

No two are ever exactly alike — each Quiet Bulb is an original piece of living botanical art.
